Risks associated with non-ionising radiation
Safety Regulations (SR)
- SR-NIR
Protection of persons from exposure to non-ionising radiation
The purpose of this Safety Regulation is to define the roles and responsibilities regarding Non-Ionising Radiation (NIR) Sources and the protection of persons from risks arising, or likely to arise, from the exposure to NIR at CERN.
General Safety Instruction (GSI)
- GSI-NIR-1
Protection of persons from exposure to Static Magnetic Fields
The purpose of this General Safety Instruction (GSI) is to define responsibilities regarding the protection of persons from risks arising, or likely to arise from Static Magnetic Fields at CERN.
Safety Instructions (IS)
- IS 22
Rules for the safe use of lasers at CERN (1994)
The radiation produced by lasers may be hazardous to the human eye and skin. It may also present fire or explosion risks. Lasers have been classified according to their exposure hazards. Conditions for use and warning labels and notices are recorded.
Safety Guidelines
- SG-NIR-1-0-1
Exposure to Static Magnetic Fields
This Safety Guideline provides guidance for the implementation of General Safety Instruction GSI-NIR-1 “Exposure to Static Magnetic Fields” (hereafter “GSI-NIR-1”). Static Magnetic Fields (SMF) are electromagnetic fields with a fundamental frequency (c.f. Annex 2 - section 6.2) between 0 and 1 Hz.
