Who we are
The CERN Fire and Rescue Service (FRS) is here to ensure the safety of everyone at CERN, around the clock, every day of the week.
Our mission is clear: to protect people, minimize damage to the environment and property, and keep CERN's operations running smoothly.
The service is made up of 48 dedicated professional firefighters of more than 15 nationalities. In the event of any emergency, we are the first responders, ready to handle fires, safety, and medical emergencies on-site and in the surrounding areas. We work closely with local Fire and Rescue Services of both France and Switzerland, sharing expertise and knowledge to enhance safety measures.
Our role also goes beyond immediate response. We are committed to ongoing research, developing innovative tactics tailored to CERN's unique needs and sharing our research with the firefighting community. As well as playing a vital role in training programs and fire equipment maintenance for the CERN community, ensuring everyone is prepared to handle emergencies effectively.
