Does workshop machinery have to be periodically checked?

How do I register new machinery?
A registration request should be submitted to EN-MME via the “Request registration of a new machine tool” form.
Does new machinery require a safety inspection?
Yes, all new machinery must undergo a safety inspection. Whether the machine is new or second-hand, the request must be submitted to the HSE unit: Mechanical-Verifications.Service@cern.ch
If machinery is moved, is a safety inspection required?
Machinery that is moved must undergo a safety inspection before it is used again in order to confirm the compliance of the new installation conditions. The inspection request must be submitted to the HSE unit: Mechanical-Verifications.Service@cern.ch
If machinery is modified, is a safety inspection required?
An inspection must be carried out on any machine that has undergone a major modification as defined in the “Guide technique relatif aux opérations de modification des machines ou des ensembles de machines en service” (“Technical guide to modification of machines or machine assemblies in service”). Which documents must be available in the vicinity of a machine in service?
The following documents must be available in the vicinity of a machine in service:
- workstation task sheet;
- CE declaration of conformity;
- instruction notice for CE machines.
Are manual machines subject to a safety inspection?
Only non-manually driven machines are subject to a machine safety inspection.
Are portable machines subject to a safety inspection?
Hand-held tools such as drills, grinders, etc. are not subject to a machine safety inspection. However, transportable machines requiring installation (e.g. trolley saws) must undergo a machine safety inspection.
