Groups in HSE

The HSE Department is supervised by the Director General, and is made up of five groups.

Fire & Rescue Service
HSE-FRS

Our mission: saving lives, protecting our environment, safeguarding property, and ensuring continuity of CERN’s operations.

Radiation Protection Group
HSE-RP

The Radiation Protection Group (HSE-RP) of the HSE Department ensures that personnel on the CERN sites and the public are protected from potentially harmful effects of ionizing radiation linked to CERN activities.

Environmental Protection Group
HSE-ENV

The Environment Group (HSE-ENV) ensures, in collaboration with all other groups of the HSE Unit, that the impact of the Organization’s activities on the public and the environment is monitored and that that CERN’s environmental concerns and related actions are communicated to the personnel, the Host States Authorities and the public.

The Transversal Services Group, HSE-TS supports HSE activities and the Groups of the HSE Department

Occupational Health and Safety Group
HSE-OHS

The Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) group provides expert assistance to CERN activities in matters of Safety, monitoring and reducing hazards and incidents on site, and ensuring compliance with both CERN and host state health and safety regulation.
