IMPACT undergoes a transformation: new interface launched for LS3 readiness

An upgraded version of IMPACT, a tool used to manage CERN’s permit-to-work processes, is now available for testing

Work to improve IMPACT, CERN’s Intervention Management Planning and Coordination Tool, has reached a major milestone. After several years of upgrade work and extensive user consultation, the “IMPACT declaration” (Activity feature) is now being launched to help support the needs of the CERN community during the third long shutdown (LS3).

IMPACT is a critical web application used by a large and diverse population at CERN to manage the Organization’s permit-to-work processes, covering aspects of both safety and coordination. It standardises the way activities are declared across all CERN installations, and its use is often required for access to specific locations.

What to expect

  • Transparent switch for users: whether you use the old or the new interface, your data remains stored and accessible.
    • Note: all Activities from the old version are available in the new version at https://impact-ng.cern.ch/activity. Activities created in the new version do not sync back to the old one.
  • Parallel running: both systems will be live during the transition. The new interface can now be tested and most features are already integrated. A few, such as professional visits, radiography, and notifications from saved searches, are still being implemented before the old version is shut down. You can also create an Activity directly in the new version at https://impact-ng.cern.ch/activity/create.

We encourage all users to explore the new interface at their own pace. Your feedback is invaluable as we ensure a smooth transition. You can contact the team via the ServiceNow form  for any questions.

Details of workshops and information sessions will soon be announced on the dedicated notification channel.
