Fire

General Information

  • Do not cross the cordon
  • Be aware of structural damage that can be caused by fires, not all damage may be visible.
  • Following a fire, the building will be ventilated, and power may be switched off. Contact the Building TSO for queries. Do not reset power or ventilation yourself.

Chemical

General Information

  • Even if there is no visual sign of a chemical incident, harmful residues, vapours or contaminated surfaces may be present in the area.

  • If required, submit a cleaning request.

Radiation

General Information

  • Do not cross the cordon
  • Remember, humans cannot sense radiation. An area may look safe even when there is a significant hazard present.
  • Radiation hazards can be serious: follow all instructions given by the TSO, CFRS or RP representatives.
  • Radioactive dust or residues, known as contamination, can be unknowingly inhaled or ingested, causing significant harm. Contamination may also be carried on clothes or shoes.
  • If you believe you have been in contact with contamination, . If possible, use a “main-pied” contamination detector, available in some buffer zones or by searching HFM in REMUS.

  • Do not enter the zone until RP have carried out an assessment. Contact the Radiation Protection group for an assessment and wait for their advice before proceeding.
  • Contact the person who was at the time of the incident for detailed information on the risk.
  • Do not enter the zone if there is a risk of contamination being present. Verify with the whether containment is required.
  • In all other cases, IF you must enter the zone, plan first to ensure as little time as possible in the hazard area.
  • Never enter the zone without the correct dosimeter and adequate Personal Protective Equipment for the hazard present.
  • If you need to relocate a radiation source, contact the Radioactive Sources Service. Do not move it yourself.
  • After the event, if you need to recover a source, contact GESO (Gestion des Sources Radioactives / Radioactive Source Management) and specify the source required.

Pollution

General Information

Animals & Green Spaces

General Information

  • Do not cross the cordon
  • Keep your distance from animals and insects, including those who may be injured or in destress, to avoid further risks to the animal or yourself.
  • Fallen or unstable trees: respect the cordon and stay vigilant for unstable ground, branches or other falling trees in the area. Do not try to move a fallen tree yourself, contact the CFRS to remove a fallen tree or unblock a road.
  • Keep your distance from products like pesticides. Contact the Green Spaces team for precautions or advice.
  • For bees or hornets and nest removal, call the CFRS administrative line: +41 22 76 74848. DO NOT kill them unless told.
  • Inform the CFRS or Green Spaces team of animals in distress or in places they should not be.
  • If you feel unsafe, are hurt, or experience a reaction to a bite or sting, call the CFRS for medical treatment on +41 22 76 74444

Lifts and Lifting Equipment

General Information

  • Do not cross the cordon
  • Only the CFRS are authorised to reactivate a lift that has been stopped due to an incident or intervention.
  • Never pass under or near to a suspended load.
  • Never attempt to use a lift that is out of order.
  • Never attempt to help anyone exit or enter a lift that is out of order. Call the CFRS for assistance.
  • If you become trapped in a lift, use the emergency button or/and contact the CFRS.
  • All lifts should have a QR code sticker with an email for non-urgent lift support. Follow the instructions from that QR code.

  • If you want an update on a lift that is out of order, contact Service Desk for normal lifts, or TI for machine lifts. There will be a ticket open which they can inform you of.

  • If a lift issue needs to be handled urgently – call the Technical Infrastructure (TI) team and ask for a lift mechanic. If the call is made outside opening hours, they will most likely arrive the next working day.
  • Inform building users of the issue. Give regular updates, including when the problem is resolved.

Flood

General Information

  • Do not enter flood waters, even if they appear shallow. They may hide sharp objects or uneven ground, be connected to live electrical equipment, or contain sewage, pollution, or contamination.
  • If you witness a flood in an electrical installation, move to a safe place away from the water, and contact CFRS using the emergency number below.
