Partnership with CERN Safety Training
A safe intervention can only be done after following the correct training. CERN Fire & Rescue service(CFRS) have highly trained firefighting professionals in various expertise areas.
CERN Fire & Rescue Service(CFRS) are providing training for the following safety training sessions:
- Fire extinguishers
- First Aid
- Emergency Evacuation
CERN Safety Training are the organisers for the CERN population.

Fire Extinguishers
In this practical and realistic training, you will learn the correct and safe use of an fire extinguisher when encountering a fire in its early stages. The sooner an intervention at a developing fire is completed, the greater the effect will be to reduce damages. Our experienced firefighters will provide the activities and knowledge needed at CERN to walk you through all the necessary precautions and actions to be taken so that an incident is safely dealt with.
First Aid
Each workplace can be a host of many risks, and not only the risk of a fire. CERN workers can also encounter a medical emergency of a colleague or perhaps experience one themselves. In the CFRS, there are highly trained and skilled Emergency Medical Technicians working on the ambulance.
We have also firefighters who are specialized in advance life support, who are trainers able to provide First Aider courses via the Learning Management System (LMS).
This training will prepare you to provide vital first aid help until the emergency services arrive. The skills and techniques you will acquire from this training is vital and may save lives.
Emergency Evacuation
In addition to the practical aspects of first aid and fire extinguishing, quick and safe evacuation of an area is essential in case of an emergency. Exiting a building during an emergency will most likely differ from your routine: your normal way out is not always quickest or safest therefore our firefighters provide training for evacuation procedures. There is a specific safety marshal training for those who are interested in being prepared to help in evacuation matters in case of an emergency.
Specific training for firefighters
Training is a large part of a firefighter's daily routine, as this ensures they are able to deal with any potential emergency. We have a close collaboration with other emergency services across this region in France and Switzerland to ensure your safety, and we work with departments to review and validate the emergency plans.
Dealing with emergencies is a team approach, by learning and having the knowledge before an actual event is fundamental to succeed.
