What are the workshop supervisor’s responsibilities?
The responsibilities of the workshop supervisor are set out in General Safety Instruction GSI-SO-12, “Workshop Supervisor (WS)”
Which paperwork do I need to complete to be able to use workshop machinery?
For the use of workshop machinery, the following forms must be approved depending on the status of the user:
- For members of the personnel: Safety Form SF-SO-12-0-1, “Agreement concerning the use of work equipment in CERN workshops by members of the personnel”;
- For contractors: Safety Form SF-SO-12-0-2, “Agreement concerning the use of work equipment in CERN workshops by a contractor”.
In accordance with General Safety Instruction GSI-SO-12, this agreement must be signed each time an operator working for a CERN contractor uses the workshop for the first time.
Can contractors use equipment belonging to CERN in a workshop?
Yes, contractors can use equipment belonging to CERN in a workshop, provided that the provisions of their contract so allow. The procedures are set out in Safety Form SF-SO-12-0-2, “Agreement concerning the use of work equipment in CERN workshops by a contractor”.
Whom should I contact if I have any questions about CERN’s safety training courses?
Contact your line manager to find out which safety training your job requires. For any other information, you can:

How can I find out which safety course I need to take to gain access to a CERN building?
On the CERN ADaMS website, specify the area(s) you wish to access and you will receive a message telling you which safety courses you need to take.
How do I enrol for a safety training course?
To see the courses available and to sign up, please consult the Learning Hub website.
Where can I park my bike at CERN?
Bikes must be parked in one of the shelters or parking racks reserved for this purpose. If no space is free, bikes must not be parked in such a way as to obstruct traffic, pedestrian access or emergency vehicle access.
Whom can MPA, MPE and MPAt contact for safety questions?
Whatever the type of your contract, you should consult your supervisor. You can also contact the DSO/LEXGLIMOS/EXSO of your department or experiment. If necessary, these officers can contact the HSE department.
