Support to Projects & Activities
How does the HSE Department provide support in environmental matters either for radiological or conventional issues?
As projects and activities carried out at CERN must comply with environmental requirements established by the Host States as well as international norms and recognised good practices, the HSE Department provides the following support to guarantee their application:
- Legal and technical support on applicable environmental requirements for:
- conception, implementation, operation and commissioning/decommissioning phases of new installations or activities;
- existing activities or installations (e.g. expertise on specific environmental matters);
- tendering documentation.
- Environmental evaluation (e.g. diagnostics, risk assessment, etc.)
- Training of CERN personnel (i.e. CERN Fire and Rescue Service, Territorial Safety Officers, etc.)
- Communication of relevant environmental issues to members of the personnel and the general public (i.e. Open days and Safety days, etc.)
